This piece is made of mother of pearl (MoP) with a pink hue adorned with marcasite -- it’s actually pyrite, but that’s not the name of the jewelry style. Marcasite is a crystalline form of iron, not unlike pyrite. Then naming confusion is not a huge deal, but no one really looks for pyrite jewelry, though no one uses marcasite to make jewelry (long story). Marcasite and mother of pearl jewelry was all the rage in the ‘20s and ‘30s. This vintage piece from the ‘70s - ‘80s when this style made a comeback. Now you can be all the rage along with this tennis bracelet.
This 33-gram bracelet’s patina is beyond warm and has moved on to black. I recommend not cleaning it. It’s supposed to look vintage because it is. Cleaning it will just make it look like a new marcasite/MoP bracelet who has time for that? That’d be like putting wings on a hot air balloon. What’s the point?
It’s a size 7.5, so it’s meant to dangle. Wear it with retro ‘20s flapper dresses or loafers and a color-blocked rayon shirt. Or, better yet, create your own style.
Do not clean this piece. It has developed a beautiful patina and will continue to get better with age.
