A 14 gram bold piece of lapis with pyrite inclusions. That’s the centerpiece of this Bali ring. I love these rings so much, I pair like rings with Navajo lapis cuffs and denim 3 out of 7 days of the week.
Here’s a boring fact about Lapis Lazuli: It was used in paint during the renaissance. The color was called “ultramarine” and was used by artists like Vermeer, Michelangelo, DaVinci and others. It was considered the “perfect color” and was often used to paint the clothing of the virgin Mary. Because acquiring lapis usually meant a trip back from Afghanistan via the Silk Road, it was more expensive than gold. There. That was boring, right?
Either way, this is a beautiful ring. You can see what the artists of antiquity -- from the far east to the far west -- saw in this deep blue stone. It’s a stone, and it’s blue -- the color of the sky, water, and apparently, the robes of the virgin Mary.
