Someday I’ll stop offering pieces from my personal collection for sale. Until that day arrives, I present to you a brilliant cuff by Michael Tahe. This piece has garnered it’s fair share of complements over the years. So the question is: Why would I sell it? Well, I love it when you love a piece I offer. And I love this piece a lot. It’s almost a self test of my seriousness. I love my shop a lot. It’s all things I either personally own, or owned, and would wear. So I look at pieces I love a lot and ask myself “Would I sell this if I’m dedicated?” I respond to myself with “yes!” But sometimes that “yes!” rings hollow. I do offer pieces I love, but there are some I hold in the cache and claim that I would, but I don’t do it. So here it is. A piece I love dearly and I’m offering it for sale.
What happens if you purchase it? Well, this has happened before. First I say “Oh no! They got it!” Then I carefully wrap it up and send it along it’s way. Then you receive it and you message me to tell me how much you love it. Oftentimes you take a picture with it on. I then see it in a new context. It’s not a possession I should hold on to forever, it’s something that was in my care for a brief moment in time. But now it has gone on to bring someone else joy. And some years later, it may be your turn to pass it along to someone else. I promise you, that initial recoil is temporary. If you cared for the piece and someone else cares for it you’ll find that it’s a sense of joy that isn’t easily replicated. Except with chocolate, maybe. A good slice of chocolate cake from The Chocolate Room in Brooklyn can do that. But I can’t eat all of that cake. That can’t be good. So there’s another way to get that serotonin rush, and that’s by letting go of objects you love and seeing them loved by someone else.
So there, now you’ve learned a huge piece of my motivation for me. It’s really just a love of it all and my desire to not eat all of the chocolate cake at The Chocolate Room. Which you should try, by the way. I highly recommend this cuff and the 6in round chocolate layer cake from TCR. They make it by melting Belgian chocolate. It’s crazy! They sell a 12in version, but I think that’s only local. Message me if you get either one. Both, to me, would be perfection.
