This piece looks like a gorgeous purpley-blue egg. This is how you select, cut, and polish a piece of turquoise. The bezel is like an ornate gilded frame for the turquoise. Framing stones is an important matter for rings. Even no bezel is a type of bezel -- the frame is “no frame”. The lavender hue under the blues is what makes people go crazy for Golden Hills turquoise. This piece of turquoise and silver could’ve been cut into about 6 separate rings. But framing this nugget was the right thing to do.

It’s a huge ring. Huge rings aren’t for everyone. It’s for someone who wants a large piece of Golden Hills turquoise that looks like an egg. Coupled with the perfect matrix that looks like someone put a hole in the egg. Add to that the matrix that looks like it has the perfect painted cracks in it. Mind you, that isn’t a hole and those aren’t cracks. It’s the natural host rock of the stone. I can say that I’ve never seen this combination of skill and artistry in a ring. Also: My birthday is August 23 if any of you out there are generous and kind.

All I’ve said above is far from convincing. But I always promised myself that I would never try to convince anyone to purchase a piece. That’s bad. If it doesn’t move you, find something else. I don’t have every piece that’ll move everyone all the time. We all have different tastes. But this piece, for me, is perfect. Now I’m off to convince my family that my birthday matters.

Toodles!
